Read the stories of the local brands we support. Some small businesses, others are charities and not for profit organisations.

We collaborate with local enterprises to support their growth, promote their eco-friendly products, and raise awareness of their offerings.

It's challenging to reach a broader audience with the message of using natural and recyclable products, but we aim to communicate the benefits clearly.

The charities we support empower women and help remote communities to become self-sufficient.

About Byiroiro

“byiroiro” (pronounced by-e-ro-e-ro) means "various" in Japanese, reflecting the brand’s beginnings in crocheting and experimenting with different crafts.

byiroiro is a handcrafted home goods and lifestyle brand, encouraging sustainable choices for everyday living. As the founder and artisan, I believe handmade homeware made from natural fibers adds organic charm, warmth, and personality to spaces while promoting health and environmental well-being. My modern organic aesthetic combines clean, minimalist lines with earthy tones, natural textures, and organic shapes for a welcoming atmosphere. Sustainability is central to my business, shaping sourcing, design, and retail practices to balance customer needs, costs, and eco-consciousness.

Penan Womens Project

The Penans, one of Borneo’s indigenous tribes, are among the last nomadic hunter-gatherers in Malaysia, relying on the rainforest for food, shelter, and medicine.

While many have transitioned to government resettlement communities, some still maintain a semi-nomadic lifestyle practiced for generations. Adapting to modern life presents challenges, including learning new skills and earning income to support education for their children.

The Penan women heavily depend on their husbands to provide for the family, making unemployment a significant hardship that impacts the entire household. Despite these difficulties, the Penans continue to preserve their cultural identity amidst the changing world around them.

Sunbird Straws

World’s first premium multi-layered drinking straws and pens made from dried coconut leaves.

In many rural villages of South East Asia, coconut leaf waste is typically disposed of by burning. This process releases significant amounts of CO2 and particulate matter into the atmosphere, causing immense harm to the environment.

By choosing eco-friendly coconut leaf straws, you’re not only reducing plastic and chemical waste but also helping to minimize harmful emissions. Each purchase not only contributes to saving nature but also empowers women in rural areas.

Our business model is built on the strength and dedication of rural women who meticulously manage and produce our Sunbird straws and pens
